Dobermans appear to be more susceptible to the hypersensitivity reactions that can be caused by sulfa drugs. It is probably best to avoid using the following drugs in Dobermans, if possible.

Sulfa drugs:
Tribrissen (Trimethoprim/Sulfadiazine)
Ditrim (Trimethoprim/Sulfadiazine)
Bactrim (Trimethoprim/Sulfadiazine)
Septra (same as Bactrim)
Cotrim (same as Bactrim)
Comoxol (same as Bactrim)
Albon (Sulfadimethoxine)
Bactrovet (same as Albon)
Primor (Sulfadimethoxine/Ormetoprim)
Azulfidine (Sulfasalazine)
Apo-Sulfatrim
Novo-Trimel

Dobermans may develop an immune complex polyarthropathy and occular sensitivity to these drugs. However, not all Dobermans will react adversely to the above drugs so the use of these drugs may be worthwhile if the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks of an adverse reaction. That is for you and your veterinarian to decide.
