Health Nite - October 15, 2009

Here is the program for the Health Night presentation this year, Thursday October 15. Responses to list requests for topics of interest ran equally for gold bead implants for CVI,and liver disease. It was suggested that because Dr. Durkes, who developed the gold bead implant technique, is located very close to Fort Mitchell, that we take advantage of that this year. Therefore the presentation was built around neuro/musculoskeletal issues. Next year holds some very promising possibilities for topics and I look forward to other suggestions as well!
These speakers are coming to share their expertise with us for the benefit of our Dobermans at their own expense and time, thus I hope they will be graced with a good audience and many questions!! Please be in touch with any questions.
Thank you,
Kathy Davieds

Free DNA Collection - October 13 & 14, 2009  [top]

10 AM to 12:30 PM                       2 PM TO 4:30 PM

We'll be at ringside in the vendor area.

All DPCA Members and Friends are invited to participate.

The CHIC DNA Repository, co - sponsored by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and the AKC Canine Health Foundation (AKC CHF), collects and stores DNA samples along with corresponding genealogic and phenotypic information to facilitate future research and testing aimed at reducing the incidence of inherited disease in dogs.

Please come and help support Doberman Pinscher Health Research by participating in the FREE DNA Collection Clinic at this year's National generously funded by the DPCA and CHIC. This blood will be placed in a DNA bank for Doberman research, available to all researchers and stored at the University of Missouri.

Participating Doberman owners will be required to fill out an "Application for DNA Repository" (DPCA DNA Collection Clinic) as well as a "CHIC DNA Repository Health Survey".  Please download and bring the completed forms with you to expedite the process. We must have the dog's AKC registered name and number as well as call name.

To pre-register please send me your name, dog's AKC registered name & number as well as call name. Also a cell number. Let me know your time preference and I will do the best I can to assign your time as close as possible. pamdehetre@peoplepc.com cell is 770-329-3044.

We welcome all however if you have placed a DNA sample in the bank last year we do not need the same dog again. Please bring another one.

We are looking for volunteers to help hold dogs and draw the blood. Please let me know if you can help as we NEED volunteers. We would like to write a schedule so please let me know what time and how long you can help. Please help by donating some time and by bringing dogs to be collected.

Everyone who brings a dog for collection will be entered in the "Basket of Dog Goodie" draw. I would love to see some donations for the basket. Please send items to me in advance or have them in my hands by Monday, Oct 12. All donations are welcome.

Let's all participate to reach our goal of 200 samples.

Thank you all.
