Wed. Oct 6, 2010: Handling Seminar
This handling seminar will be a presentation of ways to improve the
communication with your dog on the agility course. Jennifer Crank, a
follower of Linda Mecklenburg's handling, has achieved incredible
success with her dogs by being consistent and predictable in how she
communicates information.
The seminar is about handling, so dogs participating should not have
any obstacle issues, as Jenn will only be explaining her handling
system and will not go over obstacle training. Working dogs
attending must be friendly with other dogs and have reliable recalls
as multiple dogs will be in the ring working together.
The first hour of the day is a lecture explaining how the system
works, and how to build a strong foundation. The rest of the day
will work on building a strong foundation with your dog and
practical application of various skills. All working dogs must be
friendly with other dogs and have reliable recalls as multiple dogs
will be in the ring working together.
Thurs. Oct. 7, 2010: Private lessons will be offered for 7
hours.

8:00 PM TO ?????????? with breaks.
Theresa Mullen, of Terrylane Dobermans will give a short overview for the Breeders Education Seminar about "Becoming A Master Breeder" and her “The Wheel of Success”.
Also to be covered:
What is a master breeder, the goal, the tools, pitfalls of breeders to success.
"Wheel of Success" which includes 1) Anatomy, physiology and physics, 2) know the Standard, 3) genetics, 4) sound temperament, conformation, and health, 5) Sound animal husbandry practices, 6) socialization, training, conditioning, and 7) understanding the winning edge.

We also hope to paint more dogs with the bones of the forequarters and the rearquarters for more visual demonstration of movement.

The Breeders Education Committee and the attendees will hopefully engage in a Giant Rap-Session.
In the afternoon we hope to have a panel of breeders to answer questions about breeding theories, choosing a foundation bitch, choosing a breeding pair and becoming a Master Breeder and more. We are still working on this portion of our program.
Also I want to try to focus on the importance of health testing for our Dobermans.

Judges Education Seminars -Thurs. Oct. 7, 2010 [top]
Thurs. through Sat. Oct 7-9, 2010 hands on, working dog trial and ringside mentoring
The Doberman Pinscher Club of America welcomes you to the
ultimate learning experience for judges of the Doberman Pinscher. We
believe we offer unique ways to teach future judges of our breed the
essential elements to lead to successfully judging this important
breed. Fanciers are also invited to audit Thursday seminar.
Our training method combines the use of knowledgeable individuals
from the Doberman community, a varied presentation format, and dogs
of varying quality from average to excellent.
Judges will be provided the Illustrated Standard, bookmark, a
National Catalog, and a series of handouts.
We begin with a history followed by an overview of the Doberman
Pinscher.
Following the history and overview, we will have an in-depth
presentation of the Doberman as a working dog.
This will be followed by computer presentations of the different
components of the standard. There will be three 30 minute
presentations on these subjects: head, temperament, structure and
gait.
The students are then divided into two study groups that discuss the
major physical components of the breed just presented (one session
on type the other on the head, and temperament). Each study group
presentation is in a separate room with live dogs used for
demonstration. This format allows for smaller groups to interact
with their group leader, and offers an informal learning atmosphere.
The smaller groups also allow the attendees to be close to the live
dogs that are used in their presentations. Each study group is about
15 minutes in duration.
The study groups are followed by a review, we call our "take-away"
message; a summary of important characteristics by which to evaluate
the Doberman in the ring. A panel and Q&A session is offered.
Early Friday morning the judges and aspiring judges (those who plan
to apply within two years) will reconvene for the hands-on portion
of the seminar. The hands-on session will be led by a well-respected
breeder judge, with the assistance of other well-respected Doberman
breeder-judges. Here we will discuss ways to examine a Doberman and
issues important to judging the breed.
There will be several dogs of varying quality available for judging.
The students will have the opportunity to enter the ring to judge
the dogs for themselves. They will examine each dog and observe
movement. They will place the dogs. Afterward the students will have
an opportunity to state their placements and the reasons for the
choices. The breeder judges will tell the group how they placed the
dogs and describe why they placed them in the order they did. The
student can then compare his/her placements to see how they compare
with the experts' evaluation of the dogs.
Our hands-on session meets all AKC requirements as a workshop, and
counts as an enriching component for the application.
This year we are pleased to add a new component to your learning
experience. Following the hands on session, we will move to the
Working Dog Trial field where we will view Dobermans competing for
Schutzhund titles. This title deals with three aspects: tracking,
obedience and protection. We will be able to see the obedience and
protection phases. Working Sport mentors will be provided.
Following the Working Dog Trial experience, the judges and aspiring
judges (those who plan to apply within two years) will meet ringside
in a reserved area with DPCA approved mentors for ringside mentoring
of the Bitch and Intersex Class judging. Mentoring will also be
available on Thursday for dog judging. This is a rare opportunity to
see the largest number of Dobermans in the country including most of
the best representatives of the breed. During the breed there will
be closed circuit TV to allow the students to see down and back
movement. DPCA approved mentors will be available and will be
rotated periodically so that each student is exposed to different
mentors.
