Mr. Forsyth, of Pinehurst, North Carolina, is perhaps one of the most-renowned all-breed dog show judges and handlers of his generation. Having been born into a dog-show family, Mr. Forsyth has been involved in the sport of dog shows since 1933. In 1942, Mr. Forsyth enlisted with the United States Marine Corps, and served in the Marines from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the First War Dog Platoon, where he fought overseas in the South Pacific with his canine partner Liney, a Doberman Pinscher.
After returning from the War, Mr. Forsyth continued in his family's tradition of showing dogs, having worked for some of the most prestigious kennels in the country. In 1964, Mr. Forsyth handled the Best In Show winner at Westminster, the famed Whippet, Ch. Courtenay's Fleetfoot of Pennyworth. Mr. Forsyth has bred Pointers for over 30 years, and has judged at some of the most acclaimed dog shows in the United States, including the Herding Group at Westminster in 1999, Best Bred-By Exhibitor in Show at the fifth annual AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Tampa, FL in January 2006, and Best-In-Show at the sixth annual AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Long Beach California in December of 2006. Mr. Forsyth has also judged internationally at shows in Australia, Japan, Finland, Sweden, Canada, Mexico and South America. To add to his accolades, Mr. Forsyth is a recipient of the Kennel Review handlers' award and is a two-time winner of the Gaines Handler of the Year Award.
In 1967 Mr. Forsyth married Mrs. Jane Forsyth, also an esteemed handler and all-breed AKC-judge. The two are the only husband and wife team to ever handle Best In Show winners at the Westminster Kennel Club's annual dog show. Mr. and Mrs. Forsyth have one daughter, Sioux Forsyth, who has followed in her parents' footsteps as a professional handler.
