Jane Kay

Wanted to let the membership know that Jane Kay is in the hospital recovering from hip surgery.

I spoke with her this evening and she is in good spirits, she should be on her feet in a month and back to judging in short order.

Mother Jane walked around for three days before deciding something was really wrong with her hip, the doctors recommended surgery.

For those of you who would like to call or send her a card she is in:

VA Hospital Project Appreciation

I just wanted to send a note to say thank you for the video “War Dogs of the Pacific”.  I am a true believer that Dogs are mans’ best friend.  I know a number of veterans that  were dog handlers.  They always stop and say hello, and tell me of their experiences with their “war buddies”.  I also know of a young veteran, who rescues “war dogs”.   She takes them when they return from deployment, and gives them a wonderful home in which to spend their last days.  I will always be grateful to your organization for taking care of “mans’ best friend”.  May God Bless all of you, our veterans, and our 4 legged veterans!

Thanks from the bottom of my heart!

Hello Janet, Pat, and Ron,

Thank you kindly for the Dogs of War DVD and Centennial DVD & book set. We just received the gift today and because the medical library is now located in the Patient Education Resource Center (PERC) at this VA, we will be showing the DVDs and book to the vets who come into the PERC.

The gift is incredibly thoughtful; thank you again for your efforts in setting up this large-scale gift-giving!

Warmly,

I want to say “thank-you” on behalf of the veterans here at the Sheridan VAMC for your generous donation of the Dogs of War DVDs and Book. These three items were outstanding tributes to the veterans who served as dog handlers, and show the unique relationship these soldiers had with their canine partners.

I personally watched both of the DVDs, and thoroughly enjoyed them.  I will be recommending the DVDs and the book to the veterans here at the Sheridan VAMC Library.

Thank-you for thinking of the veterans!

Hello,

I just wanted to write to thank you for the wonderful donation of the two videos and the Doberman Pincher book.  We decided to catalog all three items together so they will sit together on the shelf.

The veterans will enjoy this gift immensely.  Thank you for thinking of us.  J

Veterans Administration Hospitals Project

Earlier today, the DPCA mailed a packet of information to every Veterans

Administration Hospital in the United States. A total of 173 packets were

sent, each containing a copy of the DVD “Dogs of War” produced by Mr. Harris Done, a copy of the DVD “Forever Faithful” – a chronicle of the 2008

Centennial Celebration of the Doberman Pinscher, and a copy of the

Centennial Booklet published for this celebration.  It is hoped that

hospitalized Veterans will enjoy these three gifts from the DPCA.

Many thanks go to those who spearheaded this project and to those who did

the labor. This project was suggested to Judy Brown by Pat Laurans.  Judy

obtained Board approval. Harris Done was contacted and most generously

agreed to supply his “Dogs of War” DVD at a greatly reduced price for this

endeavor. Michelle Kramer suggested that the Centennial information be

included. She then arranged for DVDs and the booklets to be shipped to Judy

Brown.  Lesley Reeves-Hunt supplied the mailing labels.

Then the Browns took over. My son,   John, got the label sheets printed.

Then my husband, Charlie, bought all needed supplies (envelopes, return

address stamp,  etc). He went to the post office and obtained a much reduced

book rate for mailing. He put labels, return address, and postage on all

envelopes. Then stuffed them all with the above items,  sealed each with

wide tape, and took them to the post office to be mailed.

I thank all of the members named above for their assistance with this worthy

project.

9-11 Tribute Ceremony

PERMISSION TO CROSS POST

In just over a month, the country will be remembering that day 10 years ago when the world changed. Part of our collective remembrance should and will be tribute paid to and recognition made of those teams of dogs and their human partners who searched the rubble of destruction to try and offer glimpses of hope to desperate families. These teams were themselves at risk. Although few of them found survivors, many were instrumental in uniting families with the remains of a dear father, husband, son, mother, wife, daughter or friend.

Their story has not been fully shared until now. The Tails of Hope Foundation will be honoring the men, women and dog search and rescue partners of 9/11 at a special Recognition Ceremony. It will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Liberty State Park, immediately across New York Harbor from Ground Zero. There were over 950 working dog teams at the three now sacred sites, together with the Fresh Kills Landfill on Staten Island.

Jeffrey P. Helsdon is a Doberman Pinscher Club of America past AKC Delegate, as well as past Legislative Director, Corresponding Secretary and Board Member.  He is now the co-producer of this event.  The linked document will explain about the event planned for the 9-11 Tribute Ceremony.

AKC/Eukanuba Meet The Breed December 4-5 2010 Long Beach CA

Doberman Pinscher Meet the Breed Booth Chairpersons Diane Simmons, Gwen Lucoff, Elaine Burlin and Martha Logan presented the DPCA booth for the AKC Eukanuba National Dog show. Sandy Driscoll and Karen Saunders provided the two Doberman Pinscher “greeters”: Ch. Dymon’s Above The Law Winmar, ROM, CD, TDIAOV, CGC, “Gunner”, and Winmar’s Better Look Twice, RN, CGC, TDI, “Quatsch”.

The booth and materials had the emphasis on educating the public about the Doberman Pinscher breed.  There were numerous handout items:  a “Frequently Asked Questions” flier, a 12 page booklet on many aspects of the Doberman Pinscher, a three fold full color brochure, local rescue information sheet as well as “Did You Know?” information brochures and Doberman Pinscher magnets.

A large table top display with information about the origin, versatility and approved colors of the breed was part of the larger table display along with a wonderful world of Doberman Pinscher computer generated slide presentation set to music and a digital photo display of working dog photos also set to music.

Other tables included the War Dog display and the accompanying DVD presentation with war dog information, a DVD playing the Animal Planet Dog 101 Doberman Pinscher segment and the laptop with the DPCA web site available for viewing at all times.

A three panel display of photo posters, an explanation of dog titles and an assortment of ribbons  was part of the backdrop.  A large poster of the well remembered fireman with the Doberman Pinscher during 9-11was prominently displayed. A stunning 6 foot banner with an image of a Doberman Pinscher dog and  bitch with the DPCA logo was the centerpiece of the booth.  Thank you to Linda Krukar for providing this photo, which was used for a number of collateral pieces.

A just for fun photo op was set up with the DPCA signage for anyone interested in taking a  picture with one of our Doberman ambassadors.  Over 100 photos were taken and given away.

A big THANK YOU to everyone that sent in photos of dogs for the presentation, Linda Krukar, Craig Bolen, Robert Ward, Michelle Santana, SandyDriscoll, Jordan Goldblatt, Valerie Stanert, Pat Jonas, Penny Cary, Steve Parsons,  Elaine Burlin, Tammy Del Conte, Alison McDonald, Eileen Michals,  CJ Grote, Amy Tourond, Michelle L. Lewis, Beth Szczygiel, Sheryl Berbenbaum,  Carol Beuchat, Gerri Hart, Ann Koch, Gwen Lucoff, Linda Rusinko, Irene  Hetrick, Davida Roof, DVM, Lora Van Epp and Karen Saunders.

Also a big THANK YOU to Michelle Kramer for providing what we needed from the DPCA and Doug Jensen for sending the educational materials from the DPCA.

If there is an omission it is unintentional.  Please forgive.

The booth was very successful, a fun weekend and great promotion for the DPCA and the breed. Along with the general public, we had Doberman Pinscher show participant visitors from the weekend show, including Doberman Pinscher Breed winner GCH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, “Fifi” with Jocelyn Mullins.

respectfully submitted,

Martha Logan and Elaine Burlin
