August 8th, 2011 | Category: Rescue Calling All Outstanding Rescue Dobermans!!!
GENERAL INFORMATION: At the time the DPCA Rescue Committee (known as COPE at that time) was founded by Judith Fellton in 1976, AKC Doberman Pinscher registrations were number 2, second only to registrations of all three Poodle varieties. This prompted the formation of “Committee On Population Explosion.” Upon Judith’s death in 2004, the DPCA Rescue Committee decided to honor her amazing legacy by establishing the Judith Fellton Memorial Award. This award, presented annually at the DPCA National Specialty, acknowledges the outstanding achievements of a rescued Doberman. The winner need not be present at the National to accept the award; it can be mailed.
Each year we seek out a rescued Doberman that both embodies a success story and is a credit to the breed and to rescue. The strength of the Doberman Pinscher’s noble character is often evident when these amazing dogs suffer the loss of their homes or their families, or when they have suffered abuse or neglect at the hands of a human. They often shine as ambassadors for the breed, and often against all apparent odds. Dobermans excel as therapy dogs, search and rescue (SAR) dogs, and service dogs, as well as faithful and loyal companions; the Judith Fellton Award is not limited to achievements in performance or to any title which the rescued Doberman holds
ELIGIBILITY: Any rescued Doberman is eligible to be nominated. For purposes of this award, a “Rescue Doberman” is defined as one that is adopted, generally from a rescue organization or shelter, though a stray kept by its finder is also considered a rescue. All rescues must be spayed or neutered, in keeping with the intent of Mrs. Fellton. A dog purchased from a pet store or breeder, regardless of the purchaser’s motivation, or a dog that is directly re-homed by a breeder is not eligible for this award.
NOMINATIONS: Nominations for the Judith Fellton Memorial Award will remain open until August 31, 2011. You can nominate your own wonderful companion, a friend’s rescued Doberman, or a Doberman that was adopted from your rescue program.

September 23rd, 2010 | Category: In the news, Rescue Hi Janet,
We took in 20 Dobermans. All of them got spayed and neutered and have all been adopted except for 3. The reason I said maybe 25 is because some of us think that she let some of the dobermans and Rotts breed and it is hard to tell if they are dobermans or not. So anyway they are all spayed and neutered. micro chipped and been vaccinated. We had a few that got giardia so they were on antibiotic and are doing fine. You and your organization were the only ones to come forward and help us. Thank-you very much. I was so happy to have some of these wonderful dogs in our shelter because honestly you rarely get these wonderful animals in shelters. So it has been nice having Mia and Gomer and Louis with us. Mia is one of the most sweetest girls and has really came along way. She was so scared and would just fall to the ground when approached, now she runs up to you and hits your hand with her head and wants to be loved on. She is so pretty.
Thanks again for all your help.

September 22nd, 2010 | Tags: assist, doberman, DPCA, rescue | Category: In the news, Rescue Goldendale, WA – In late July, 48 dogs were removed from the filthy property of a private dog breeder in Goldendale, WA. The dogs were primarily Rottweilers, German shepherds, and Doberman Pinchers.
A small rescue based out of Goldendale, Dogs of the Gorge, took in the bulk of the dogs confiscated from the property. Needless to say, it was a huge undertaking for a small rescue organization.
When Janet Van Wormer, President of the Doberman Pincher Club of America, heard about the plight of the small non-profit organization, and the many dogs in need of assistance, she put forth a motion to direct funds to D.O.G.S. for the care of the confiscated dogs.
The motion was passed and a generous $2500 was donated to Dogs of the Gorge, specifically earmarked towards the care of the Dobermans that were being rescued. According to Lisa Mabry, of D.O.G.S., the Doberman Pincher Club of America is the only breed specific organization that stepped up to assist with the dogs, and she is extremely grateful for the funds that they provided.
Though there were no other dog clubs that came to the aid of the rescue, there were many volunteers that Mabry is extremely grateful to. Many volunteers dropped everything to help bathe the dogs, and to assist with the many other tasks necessary for caring for large numbers of large breed dogs.
Of special note, Mabry wants to extend a warm thank you to Dr.Marianne Randall and Officer Melissa Wykes and Officer Randy Wells.
Many, but not all, of the dogs confiscated in this raid were adopted out. Some are still receiving special one on one attention due to problems they have developed as a result of poor socialization. Mabry is working with them and will not stop her efforts until they are all placed in special, loving homes.
