The Doberman Pinscher Club of America (DPCA) maintains an official directory of people who are active in breeding Dobermans in the United States of America, Canada, and other countries. To locate a Doberman breeder close to you, enter the state name in the search box.  To find a breeder in another country, enter the country name.  Or, you can browse the entire list as is.  DPCA provides this list of breeders as a service to the general public. These breeders (members) are in good standing with the Doberman Pinscher Club of America, but under no circumstances does the DPCA guarantee the services of said member(s) or assume any responsibility or liability regarding any agreements you may enter in with any of the breeders listed.

This Breeder Referral list consists of individuals who wish to be listed as a resource and be contacted by the general public. To be included on this list, each person much have been a member of the Doberman Pinscher Club of America for at least five years and currently be a member in good standing with the DPCA and the America Kennel Club.

What defines a responsible breeder?

A responsible breeder will know the breed standard and use it as a blueprint for producing quality dogs. They are not breeding for profit and acknowledge responsibility for every dog they produce. A responsible breeder cares about each puppy and its placement, and provides an abundance of information as part of the sale, such as care and feeding instructions, breed information, health and vaccination records, copies of health testing completed, as well as aftercare and expertise in dealing with cropped ears. They will stay involved after the sale and be available for questions and assistance.

A responsible breeder will be able to accurately discuss the needs of the Doberman Pinscher to determine if this breed is right for you. An experienced breeder will also know how to recognize certain traits in individual puppies that will match the right puppy with the right home. Many will require a home check and references before placing dogs and will ask many questions of prospective homes as part of an appropriate placement. Many will have a return policy.

Participation in dog clubs and activities are an indication of a depth of involvement in the breed. With club involvement, there is a code of ethics to uphold as well as a reputation in the dog community. They will be able to provide references and will have some type of contract or bill of sale. They may require a spay/neuter agreement on any dogs not considered breeding animals. They will also provide a pedigree and AKC registration paperwork.
