The Apex Awards will recognize the contribution that Breeders have made to the Breed not simply by the number of champions they have bred, but through a broader perspective that takes into account the virtues of conformation, temperament, trainability, longevity and athleticism, as well as the breeder’s service to the Doberman community.

Both the Legacy and Apex awards are based on a tiered system, allowing for increased recognition for advanced achievements. Along the process of creating and refining these
programs, we sought the feedback of renowned breeders. This feedback helped us in fine-tuning the criteria, and mirrored these breeders’ support and excitement about the programs.

Beverly Capstick has been involved in the sport of dogs over 55 years with breeding, showing and training. In the early 60’s, while training her Boxer in obedience, she was introduced to a Doberman Pinscher and has shared her life with this breed ever since. She began judging in 1979 and now judges five groups, Junior Showmanship and Best in Show. She has enjoyed judging throughout the United States and several foreign countries.

Capstick, now retired, was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State College in Cape Girardeau with majors in Art and Physical Education and minors in Biology, Education and Psychology. Art has been a common thread throughout her life, weaving her vocation and interests in dogs together, crossing over into lecturing around the world on Canine Structure and its relationship to movement. Beverly currently operates her own art business and displays her work, naturally of dogs, at one or two Nationals a year with the rest of the year filling orders. Capstick’s artwork in copper repousse (relief) is proudly shown under the name of Lutzyn Originals, LLC and can be found in homes throughout the United States plus fifteen foreign countries.

Active in many dog organizations and founder of two group clubs, a judges group and an all breed club, in Minnesota, Capstick strives to give back to the sport that has brought her so much enjoyment.
